Gemstone Information ArticleHow To Collect Gemstones
By Lee MacRae
Many people, young and old, say collecting semi-precious and precious gemstones like
loose diamonds or
loose gemstones is a passionate hobby. Many people have a great love of the various gemstones found around the world today. This article will look at a number of factors you should understand when starting this interesting gemstone hobby.
The first thing you need to do is to visit the library and get some books. You want to know everything there is to know about your new hobby. The more you learn about each kind of gemstone the wiser will be your purchases. You need to be as informed as possible.
Color is a very important part in the value of the stone. The closer the color comes to its pure spectral color the more valuable the stone becomes. Traditional spectral colors are yellow, blue, Violet, green, orange and red. Colors that are paler or darker diminish the value of the stone.
The cut of the stone is the next factor to take a look at. How precise the cut is determines the amount of light the gemstone stone will reflect. The cut will ultimately determine the stones brilliance and how much it will be valued.
The next factor to consider is the clarity of the gemstone under consideration. This means the stones purity or the absence of internal inclusions, internal particles or spots within the crystal. Obviously, stones with a lack of flaws would make the gemstone highly valuable.
Next on the agenda is the duo of size and weight. Because gemstones can vary in density or specific gravity. Weight and size are not necessarily equal across the board. If a diamond of a certain size weighs 1.00 carats then a ruby of equal size would weigh 1.20 carats. An emerald stone would be about 0.95 carats and an Alexandrite stone would be about 1.23 carats.
Taking up the collecting of loose gemstones can be a great hobby. And there are so many different types when it comes to gemstones. You can start collecting gemstones like Garnet, Tiger's-eye or Kornerupine for example. The varieties are nearly endless. And if money is tight you can go gemstone hunting and find the raw materials instead of buying them. Take the example of the United States. In New Hampshire you can rock hunt for Beryl, Rock Crystal and Garnet.

Tips On loose cultured diamonds
Emerald, together with green filtered light, is the gemstone that is said to be
able to heal eczema. Green chrysoberyl, green onyx, and aventurine (green quartz
) can also be good substitutes for emerald. If you suffer from irritated skin,
sapphire can also be used in conjunction with a green gemstone.

The Timur Ruby is not a ruby but a spinel, although until 1851, it was thought
to be the largest known ruby. It weighs 352.50 carats and ranks second in size
behind the 398.72-carat spinel in the Imperial Russian Crown. It is not faceted,
but retains its original baroque shape, similar to the Black Prince's Ruby,
which weighs around 170 carats.
